Sportsbook Poker ReviewSportsbook.com has really stepped things up at their once lackluster online poker room. They recently unveiled Play Aces, a totally new online poker site that suggests a strong future for the Sportsbook brand. Poker players with a short attention span will appreciate Play Aces' extensive list of side games while bonus hunters will appreciate their sign-on bonus which offers new members a choice between a $650 match or $200 in instant cash. Any player looking for a room with profit potential will be pleased to see that Play Aces' tables – from the low through the mid-stakes levels – are easy pickings. The Look The Play Aces site itself still looks like it's under construction. The graphics are full on Old Vegas (aka hazy and dated), and the plain text makes it look more like a fly-by-night site than the well-established poker room it really is. Don't let it deter you from downloading the software, because the poker room itself is above average. The lobby is clean and logically organized, and the tables are swanky and modern. That said, they're not the easiest to read when resized for multi-tabling. The Software When Play Aces made the jump to the Merge Network they inherited a totally new software package. Merge's platform is fast and reliable and offers some great special features. Unfortunately, that offer doesn't extend very far. The site still focuses on U.S. and Canadian fans, and yet even some U.S. residents won't be able to enjoy it. For that matter, Mac and Linux users might as well stop reading now since there's no flash version of the site. Players that are lucky enough to get a Play Aces account will enjoy the following features: time banks, the Merge-exclusive deal it twice option, rabbit cams, the option to expose just one card, and a quick start feature which allows you to find your ideal tables instantly. While the room does allow multi-tabling, this platform only supports four simultaneous tables. Ouch. The Games Play Aces' game selection is also pretty sparse. They offer up the obvious tables – Texas Hold'em, Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo – but their only non-community card tables are for Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo. You read that right – no draw and no mixed games. On the upside, all of their games are also offered in tournament formats. The People Since a large number of the Play Aces members have wandered in from Sportsbook's other sites, the competition here is super soft. Unfortunately it's also super light with the real money crowd rarely cracking a couple thousand. Here's hoping that now that Sportsbook has chosen a clear direction for their poker room players will start showing up to try it. The Promotions Play Aces does something a little different with their sign-up bonus. New members can go the traditional route by choosing a 100% match worth up to $650, or they can choose $200 in instant credits. Regardless of which you choose, you'll also get free entry into the site's $500 welcome freeroll. The rest of Play Aces' promotional package is pretty standard: freerolls, a relatively tight VIP program, leaderboard competitions and a bad beat jackpot. As of now, they're seriously lacking when it comes to big guaranteeds and satellite opportunities. The Help Sportsbook's Poker help section is seriously lacking. Thankfully you can get live support by phone or chat, plus they aim to answer all emails within an hour.
