PokerStars Poker ReviewPokerStars is the largest online poker room on the internet today. Its extensive security allows players to relax and enjoy the game. PokerStars offers some of the best online tournament play for all levels and its software is considered the best among it competition featuring user friendly platform. You will find the majority of popular poker games on PokerStars including Texas Holdem, Omaha (Hi/Lo), 7 card Stud (Hi/Lo), Razz, 5 card draw and Badugi. If you're serious about only playing good poker, then you won't find better than what's on offer at PokerStars. The Look The PokerStars logo – a red spade with a white star at the center – has become synonymous with online poker, and their color theme – red, white, black and green – gives a nostalgic but hip nod to the game's origins. But while the graphics are nice and clean and the games play glitch-free, we still think Poker Stars' tables (in all their available variations) look a little sparse and dated. The Software Like most other major poker rooms, PokerStars uses only its own privately designed and independently owned software package. They must be doing something right, because their tables and tournaments are consistently packed, and yet the lobby and games are never slow to load and in-game action is lightning fast. Poker Stars also gets brownie points for offering a Mac-compatible version of their poker room though they don't currently offer a flash version. They also get a nod for offering their room in more than 15 different languages (with more on the way). When it comes to special features, the Poker Stars software doesn't disappoint. They offer all the must-haves like player stats, opponent notes, hand history and up to 24 simultaneous cash games in multi-tabling mode plus unlimited tournaments. To help you manage your many tables, they also offer some unique “table focus” features. Tired of slow hand play? Then try one of their fast tables where the time clocks are set at 15 seconds. The Games PokerStars has an excellent selection of poker games that includes everything from the obvious (Texas Hold'em) to the outright rare (Badugi and an 8-Game Mix similar to the one featured at the WSOP this year). If you're looking for a good place to prep for a major live tournament – or even for PokerStars' own WCOOP – then this is it. Their full selection of games includes: Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi Low, Stud, Stud High Low, Triple Stud, Five Card Draw, 2-7 Triple Draw, 2-7 Single Draw, HORSE, Razz, 8-Game Mix and Badugi. The site also plays host to hundreds of online tournaments in an unparalleled number of formats plus quite a few significant live events, making it the ideal place to grind your way into a seat at a major event. The Players During peak weekend hours it's not unheard of for Poker Stars to attract a quarter of a million players. During their big events (like the WCOOP), the numbers are even higher. With such huge numbers, even the less common game tables see pretty consistent action. But how tight is that action? The good news is that if you're playing middle stakes or lower the competition is pretty soft. The high stakes on the other hand are almost pro-quality around the clock. The tournaments, because of their large fields, are also softer than average in the early rounds though the competition can be pretty stiff at the final table. The Promotions As if giving away millions every week in their many tournaments wasn't enough, PokerStars also offers a long list of promotions. Currently new players are privy to a 100% deposit bonus worth up to $200 on each of their first three deposits. During special events, returning players can also earn reload bonuses. To ensure that even the lowliest of players has something to look forward to, Poker Stars also likes to beef up their freerolls with big guaranteeds and flash prizes (like a Lamborghini in the summer of 2010). Plus regular players can always get tournament entries and cash back via the ongoing VIP Club. The Help Like most of its competition, PokerStars has an expansive help and FAQ section on their site and is quick to answer email inquiries but falls short of offering true live support either by phone or by live chat.
