Carbon Poker Review

If poker rooms were beauty queens then Carbon Poker would win the crown. The good news is that Carbon Poker has both brains and beauty. Their user-friendly lobby and painfully attractive tables and graphics are backed by Merge Network's award-winning new platform. Their unparalleled selection of poker variants and other side games makes them a must-play room for any serious card shark.

Carbon Poker is a relatively new online poker room – having just launched in 2007 – but thanks in large part to their smart design and infallible software they've had no trouble competing with the big boys and have quickly earned their own large and loyal following.

The Look

Carbon is a poker room with real sex appeal, and we're not talking about their sponsorship of Shannon Elizabeth. If sheer coolness isn't enough to impress you, then maybe Carbon Poker's cutting edge graphics will. Even at their smallest size, the table, cards, icons, etc have good definition.

The Software

Carbon Poker shares its software with the other members of the up-and-coming Merge Network, so while the overall playing experience isn't exclusive, it's nevertheless tried and true. Not only is this software fast, reliable and secure, but this particular platform also offers some of our favorite new in-play features.

Carbon Poker's platform offers all the standard features like multi-tabling with vector graphics, quick start tournament presets, player notes and stats and hand history. They also offer some rarer features like a time bank and a rabbit came, and some totally unique features like a deal it twice option for heads-up action, and the option to expose just one card.

The Games

Carbon Poker is one of the few online poker rooms not associated with a casino that nevertheless offers some of the more popular non-poker card games. Any of these games can be played on the side while competing in regular poker ring games or a tournament. Even without the extra side games, Carbon's got one of the largest game selections in the industry. Your poker options include: Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, 7 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo, 5 Card Stud, Razz, 5 Card Draw, Ace to 5 Lowball, Deuce to 5 Lowball, Badugi and HORSE. Players can also join a euchre table or play a solo game of blackjack, roulette, Caribbean Stud (including jackpots), video poker or backgammon.

Carbon Poker's tournament lineup is also large and varied. The buy-in spread offers a good number of options for players of every budget, plus there are tons of different tournament structures. The site has daily, weekly and monthly freerolls with prizes of up to $50,000 on top of some large guaranteeds, a nice array of satellites and the site's very popular bounty and shootout events.

The People

As a newer poker room, the competition at Carbon Poker is softer than average. The fact that they're currently only pulling very moderate numbers (5-10,000) at peak hours should be good news for tournament players looking for a quick and easy kill, but it's bad news for fans of the less common ring games where action is almost non-existent.

The Promotions

Carbon Poker has a massive promotional lineup. It's so big we can't even begin to cover it all here. Their first deposit bonus is a very fair 100% match good for up to $600 plus 14 days' worth of $500 freeroll entries. They've always got a major satellite event going, whether it's for the WSOP, the APPT or the WPT. They're also currently pushing their daily cash lottery which randomly rewards active players. Carbon also offers a number of rotating seasonal promotions, the usual leaderboards, and a generous VIP Rewards program that's bolstered by frequent double points events.

The Help

Carbon Poker's FAQ section isn't as all-inclusive as some of its competitors', so you may need to seek further assistance. For individual support, they offer up a single email address with the promise of an answer within 48 hours. If you need help NOW, then we recommend logging on and using the live chat feature (unless of course your problem is that you can't log on).
