888 Poker Review888Poker is the new room that recently replaced 888.com's original flagship poker site, Pacific Poker. Fans of that now defunct poker room needn't worry – 888Poker is nothing but a redesigned and slightly improved reincarnation of its predecessor. The software is better and the design is more current, but the promotions are still generous and the fish population is still swarming. In other words, regardless of what kind of poker player you are, 888Poker is an obvious improvement. The Look Like most of today's major poker rooms, 888Poker seems vaguely familiar, and yet the new site also manages to create a look and feel that's distinctly its own. We like the bright but surprisingly relaxing color scheme, the multiple lobby view features and the new and improved graphics. While many of the table views come across as overdone, none of them were outdated or obnoxious, and the cards are still clear and highly visible when the tables are resized for multi-tabling. The Software As with the rest of the entities under the 888 umbrella, 888 Poker runs on its own proprietary software. 888 took that software to a whole new level at the end of 2010 with the introduction of their POKER 6 platform. Pacific Poker had always been a nice, reliable, middle of the road poker room, but POKER 6 could easily rocket 888Poker to the front of the pack. The new 888Poker lobby is one of our favorites thanks to some clever filtering options, and any time-strapped player will appreciate the table and tournament presets and quick-seat feature. Players can also manually or automatically resize their multi-tabling screens while playing. The site also offers the usual player notes, stats and hand history plus hand replay. 888Poker even makes table and tournament recommendations based on your previous and most popular choices. Best of all? The poker room and most of its features are also available instantly via a flash version of the site. The Games One area where 888Poker could still improve is in their game selection. If you're a true, blue community card player then you'll be satisfied with the site's Texas Hold'em, Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo tables, but if you're looking for something different then 7 Card Stud and Stud Hi-Lo are your only alternatives. Unfortunately, the site doesn't currently offer any Draw variants or even any mixed games. 888 Poker does have a satisfying array of Hold'em tournaments at every buy-in level with daily freerolls and both regular and turbo SNGs, but their satellites are limited and specialty tournaments are rare. They are currently running a Daily Challenge Series with added money, but it doesn't quite compare to the big money guaranteeds offered by most of the site's close competition. On the upside, they're the only poker room currently offering the exciting Double or Nothing tourney format. During peak hours, 888Poker's crowd is still pretty thin compared to the hundreds of thousands of players crowding the tables at competing sites. Still, the 10,000 or so players they regularly attract make for reliable action at the low and middle stakes ring games and sizable but not insurmountable competition at the tournaments. It's worth noting that since much of the traffic is overflow from the other 888 sites, 888Poker's crowd is super soft. The Promotions 888Poker's sign-up bonus – a 100% match worth up to $400 – is even better than it sounds because the room awards 25% of it instantly. The site also offers some excellent depositor freerolls, a player-friendly rewards program, some fun pro bounties and an expansive steps program that makes it easy to grind your way up from a few cents to a few thousand dollars. The Help 888Poker is available in 10 different languages and has a decent FAQ section, though we wish it was as easy to filter as their lobby. If you've got a more significant problem, though, you may be disappointed to find that 888 is reluctant to offer up live support information. Instead, concerned players are directed to submit queries via a pop-up email service.
